Guitarist Nick Andrew started his musical career in his native Scotland where he worked as a guitar teacher, session guitarist and performer based in Dundee.
After making a name for himself as a solo performer working with many names on the Classical and Jazz circuit such as Martin Taylor, Simon Dinnegan, John Goldie and Russian composer Nikita Koshkin, he made the move down to London in 1997 to develop his career and musical outlook further.
One evening after a gig it was brought up in conversation that Stephen and Nick should think about writing some original material. The first experiment produced ‘Wrong’, which was met with great enthusiasm from friends and colleagues, this spurred the duo on to produce the demos for ‘Above All Noise’.
The duo found drummer Lee Aaron. Stephen and Nick had both worked with Lee live, so he was recruited into the drumming hotseat. Lee was the ideal drummer for the project as the music is compositionally demanding, technical, but needs a sense of groove and attitude.
The drums were recorded in Smiley Barnard’s (Alarm, Archive) studio, with Nick in the production chair, his fifth as producer. The mad Scotsman also found himself playing bass on the record as every other bass player they approached complained that the music was too difficult!
Apart from a few guitar parts and the drums, everything else was recorded in Stephen's studio in Reading over the course of a year, due to the guys being in demand for other recording and performance commitments (including a Bob Seger tribute album!).
'Above All Noise' was completed in September and was released worldwide on January 1st, 2014.
Stephen, Nick and Lee continue to work regularly as composers and session musicians. They also teach and perform masterclasses.
They have started rehearsing for shows later in the year in the South East of England and nationwide masterclasses.

Zipper Tongue History
Formed in 2011 by Stephen Roper and Nick Andrew;
Zipper Tongue completed their debut album 'Above All Noise' in 2013. The album was officially released on the 1st January 2014 and is available worldwide!
Nick ended up working on a wide range of solo and collaborative projects with various solo artists and cover bands including a U2 tribute band, which is where Nick honed his skills in guitar effects and MIDI guitar.
This knowledge of guitar and midi effects is prevalent in the music of Zipper Tongue.
Nick spent his early years in London teaching guitar and soon branched out to tutoring in various schools around Berkshire.
Most of the great rock bands meet at school or college. It’s in the DNA of any rock band!
In keeping with tradition Nick joined forces with guitarist and singer Stephen Roper, who was a student of Nick's.
The two met when Stephen started having weekly guitar lessons from Nick around the Reading area. Nick saw potential in the future rock guitarist/vocalist.
Stephen started to attend Rock band workshops run by Nick and quickly came to the attention of Nick’s fellow tutors after an end of year performance of “Smoke on the Water” and “Sultans of Swing”, where he exhibited a vocal sound beyond his years and a great performing style.
It was this performance that sowed the seed of things to come when Nick and Stephen met years later and decided to start performing together in a covers duo. They started playing in pubs and clubs around Hertfordshire, Surrey and Berkshire.
